Protests erupted within the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) at Panoor following the narrow defeat of UDF candidate Jayanti Rajan in the Koothuparamba Assembly constituency, despite a Statewide pro-UDF wave.
Party workers burned an effigy of IUML Koothuparamba constituency secretary Shahul Hameed, alleging that he and his family had openly worked against the party candidate.
The protesters claimed that Ms. Rajan’s vote share fell in Panoor, where IUML leaders have considerable influence. She lost the election by 930 votes.
