Top Gun 3 is officially in development. Tom Cruise will be reuniting with producer Jerry Bruckheimer for the aerial actioner as confirmed by Paramount film co-head Josh Greenstein at the CinemaCon on Thursday (April 16, 2025).
The film is a follow-up to Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick and has been in the works for some years now with the co-writer of Maverick Ehren Kruger hired to write the script two years ago.

More details about Top Gun 3 about the director and other cast are awaited.
Maverick was helmed by Joe Kosinski and also featured Miles Teller and Glen Powell. The actioner itself was a sequel to Tony Scott’s widely celebrated 1986 original and turned out to be a massive success at the box office, reviving theatre business after the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the 2022 sequel, Cruise’s Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell went back to his flight school to teach a new batch of pilots on how to effectively execute a dangerous mission.
Meanwhile, Cruise was last seen in Mission: Impossible— The Final Reckoninglast year. The actor will be seen next in Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s black comedy, Digger.
