More than 50 women staged a road blockade with empty pots near Ammapettai on Saturday morning (May 23, 2026), demanding regular drinking water supply to their locality.

Residents said around 60 families reside in Perumal Kovil Nagar under Patlur panchayat on the Vellithiruppur–Patlur Road. They alleged that river water supply to the area had remained irregular for the past week despite repeated complaints to the authorities.

As no action was taken to restore regular supply, the women gathered on the Vellithiruppur–Bhavani Road and blocked the Perumal Nagar Main Road with empty pots. The protest disrupted traffic in the area for some time. On receiving information, Vellithiruppur police rushed to the spot and held talks with the protesters. Following an assurance that the issue would be taken up with the officials concerned for necessary action, the protest was withdrawn.
