1. Bengaluru’s shelved stray dog microchipping plan back on track
The stray dog microchipping initiative, which had been put on the back burner, is back on track in Karnataka, with the Union Ministry of Animal Husbandry directing municipal corporations to implant radio frequency identification (RFID) tags during animal birth control (ABC) surgeries.
The direction follows a decision to maintain data on ABC centres and surgeries undertaken by States and to steadily review the progress of the programme. Now, not just Bengaluru, but other urban local bodies in Karnataka too will have to take up the initiative, as the directive has been issued by the Central Government.
2. Suo motu case against top Karnataka officials after Lokayukta raids expose illegal sand mining in Bagalkot
Karnataka Lokayukta Police have registered a suo motu case against several senior government officials, including the Director of the Mines and Geology Department in Bengaluru, Deputy Director of Mines and Geology in Bagalkot, Bagalkot DC, and tahsildars of Badami, Mudhol, Jamakhandi, Hunagund and Ilkal taluks, over alleged largescale illegal sand mining in the Krishna riverbed.
An inquiry reportedly revealed indiscriminate and illegal excavation using heavy machinery in violation of environmental norms and mining regulations. Following this report, Lokayukta Police were authorised to carry out surprise inspections and initiate action against officials suspected of negligence or collusion.
3. Fake call centres duping US citizens busted in Bengaluru, man from Delhi, another from UP arrested
The Karnataka State Cyber Command has busted four fake call centres in Bengaluru that were allegedly cheating U.S. citizens by impersonating a prominent American accounting firm. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officials of the Cyber Crime Police Station (South East), along with the Special Cyber Cell, conducted co-ordinated raids at four locations across Bengaluru.
According to investigators, the accused were posing as representatives of a reputed U.S.-based accounting company, and allegedly duped American citizens by offering fake tax advice, licence renewal services, and counterfeit software licence keys. The fraudsters reportedly collected huge amounts of money from victims in the guise of service charges.
4. Delhi-Bengaluru Air India flight suffers tail strike while landing at KIA
An Air India flight suffered a tail strike while landing at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on May 21, 2026. Flight AI2651, operating from Delhi to Bengaluru, experienced a tail strike during landing. Airline officials said that the aircraft landed safely following which all passengers and crew disembarked. The incident occurred at around 11 a.m.
The aircraft was grounded for detailed inspection at KIA, and as a result, the return flight AI2652 from Bengaluru to Delhi was cancelled. Air India said that the incident will be investigated in accordance with established procedures in coordination with the relevant regulatory authorities.
