Higher Education Minister P. Viswanathan on Sunday said the State government will soon take action on appointing Vice-Chancellors to various universities.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony at Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College here, the Minister said the issue was pending before the Supreme Court which had posted the case to June 29. In consultation of the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, action would be taken up on initiating the process of appointing Vice-Chancellors. Steps would be taken to clear legal hurdles on the issue.
Mr. Viswanathan said the previous regime had to fight for State autonomy. However, the new government would not be on collision course with the Governor. It would ensure cordial relationship with him as mentioned in the Governor’s address to the Legislative Assembly. All pending issues, including appointment of faculty members and regularisation of guest lecturers, would be resolved soon.
Central funds
On the Centre releasing funds to Tamil Nadu, the Minister said the new government would take all decisions carefully. The Chief Minister would take it up with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Central Ministers.
About reports of seizure of cash in a Regional Transport Office, Mr. Viswanathan said Mr. Vijay had promised a transparent government. All departments, including Public Works, Highways, and Higher Education, would ensure transparent administration at all levels. There would be no room for corruption, he added.
