Over eight lakh ‘Pink Saheli’ smart cards have been issued to women in Delhi for availing free travel on city buses, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said in a statement on Tuesday.
“The achievement reflects not only the growing popularity of the scheme, but also the increasing trust that women in Delhi are placing in the city’s public transport system and their rising participation in it. Special camps are also being organised continuously to help women get the cards made easily,” the CMO statement read.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the government remains committed to prioritising women’s safety, convenience and self-reliance, and that the Pink Saheli smart card is not merely a facility for free travel, but has emerged as a means of providing women with a dignified, secure, and digitally empowered travel experience.
The Delhi government had launched the ‘Saheli Pink National Common Mobility Card’ in March.
