The Crime Branch has officially taken over the investigation into the mysterious death of Febina Sajan, a 23-year-old nursing student of a private nursing college in Kollam.
The case of the death of Febina, a resident of Thuravoor in Alappuzha, was transferred to the agency following demands for justice from her family.
According to family sources, Febina had been staying at a relative’s house in Kottiyam to attend her examinations when her parents were informed of her sudden demise on January 18, 2026.
Death threats
In their formal complaint, the relatives alleged that Febina had faced relentless harassment and death threats from Pradeep, a Maharashtra native currently residing in Kollam and engaged in gold business. The harassment was reportedly so severe that Febina had previously discontinued her studies, returning to Kollam solely to write her final examinations when the tragedy occurred.
The family says their suspicions deepened due to the hasty manner in which the local authorities completed the post-mortem examination and legal formalities before her parents could travel from Alappuzha to Kollam. Furthermore, relatives noted alarming physical anomalies on the body, claiming there were visible pinprick marks on her corpse.
Following a complaint submitted by her parents to the District Police Chief (Kollam City), further investigation was taken up. The inquiry had uncovered significant irregularities in the initial probe by the Kottiyam police, concluding that there were major lapses in the investigation.
