Liberty Mutual Insurance Group is ranked 91st on the Fortune 500 list and is the ninth largest property and casualty insurer globally, with $178.2 billion in assets and $50.5 billion in revenues in 2025.

Liberty Mutual Insurance Group is ranked 91st on the Fortune 500 list and is the ninth largest property and casualty insurer globally, with $178.2 billion in assets and $50.5 billion in revenues in 2025.

Liberty Mutual Insurance has increased its shareholding in Liberty General Insurance Limited (LGI) to 74 per cent, the US-based insurer announced on Monday in Mumbai. The move follows an earlier stake increase from 49 per cent to 55.40 per cent in September 2025, marking a continued push by the American insurer to deepen its presence in the Indian market.

The remaining 26 per cent stake in LGI is held by Enam Securities. Liberty Mutual’s holding is structured through Summit Asia Investments Holdings Pte Ltd, a group company of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group.

Parag Ved, Chief Executive Officer and Whole-Time Director of Liberty General Insurance, said the stronger backing from Liberty Mutual would allow the company to expand its distribution network and grow across retail and commercial insurance segments. He pointed to India’s diversity and rising demand for protection products as key drivers for the business going forward.

Matthew Jackson, President of Liberty International Insurance APAC, said India remains an important market for Liberty Mutual’s Asia Pacific strategy and that the increased shareholding would allow the company to bring its global capabilities more directly to the Indian market.

Liberty General Insurance commenced operations in 2013 and currently employs over 1,300 people, operating across 95-plus locations in 28 states and Union Territories. Its partner network spans more than 6,500 hospitals and over 6,100 auto service centres. The company offers a range of products including health, motor, commercial, marine, liability, and property insurance.

Liberty Mutual Insurance Group is ranked 91st on the Fortune 500 list and is the ninth largest property and casualty insurer globally, with $178.2 billion in assets and $50.5 billion in revenues in 2025. The group operates across 27 countries with more than 40,000 employees.
