Argentina made it through to the knockouts of the FIFA World Cup for the sixth-straight edition after defeating Austria 2-0 in Dallas on Monday.
Lionel Messi scored the first goal of the match, striking with his left foot in the 38th minute after previously having missed a penalty. He then added another in the injury time in second half after skipping past two players and hitting at an open goal.
The victory took La Albiceleste to six points in Group J and helped it retain the top spot. Lionel Scaloni’s side had beaten Algeria 3-0 in the opening round.
Austria, despite the defeat, still occupies second place with three points and could seal the top-two spot with a win over Algeria in the final round.
