Swapan Sadhan Bose, former president of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club and an ex-Rajya Sabha Member, passed away in Kolkata on Tuesday. He was 78.
Swapan Sadha Bose, known popularly as Tutu Bose, was admitted to a private hospital on Monday, following cardiac issues. West Bengal’s Sports Minister Nisith Pramanik and Kalyan Chaubey, the president of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), had visited him at the hospital.
“Your legacy will always remain a part of Mohun Bagan. Rest in peace, Tutu Bose,” Bagan, now active as Mohun Bagan Super Giant, wrote on social media.
Tutu Bose served Mohun Bagan in several capacities in administration, including as secretary and president, over three decades, becoming a name synonymous with the green-and-maroon.
As one of the leading sports administrators in the Kolkata football circuit, Tutu Bose played a crucial role in significant player-signings into Mohun Bagan between 1990 and late 2000s, such as Chima Okorie, Krishanu Dey and Monoranjan Bhattacharya.
Away from football, he had been a Rajya Sabha member from 2005 to 2011, as nominated by All India Trinamool Congress.
