Lionel Messi opened his 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a hat-trick as Argentina won its first group-stage match 3-0 against Algeria. So did Austria, which cruised to a 3-1 victory over Jordan.
Both teams will now face off in Texas, looking for a smoother path to the round of 32.
Amin Mohamed Omar from Egypt will be the referee in Argentina vs Austria at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Omar has been a FIFA-approved referee since 2017 and officiated the second match of the 2026 World Cup between South Korea and Czechia. He has previously worked in the Egyptian Premier League and the subsequent domestic and continental competitions.
He has taken charge of 270 games across all competitions, flashing the yellow card 981 times, while the red card has been brought out 25 times.
The 40-year-old also refereed in the Africa Cup of Nations during the 2019, 2022, 2024 and 2025 editions.
