Former English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff was on Tuesday unveiled as the men’s head coach of Big Bash League side Sydney Thunder.
The 48-year-old signed a two-year contract with Thunder to mark his first coaching job outside the UK.
“When the opportunity to coach Sydney Thunder arose, obviously I was excited,” said Flintoff. “One of my aims over the time with Sydney Thunder is that every player looks back thinking, ‘that’s the best part of the year, that’s a team that I want to play for’.
Flintoff is considered by many to be one of England’s greatest all-rounders, having earned 227 caps across the three formats
Since his retirement, Flintoff has coached Northern Superchargers in the Hundred in 2024 and 2025. He is currently in charge of the England Lions side and has also worked with the senior white-ball squads in 2023.
In the last Big Bash season, Thunder finished last in the standings, winning just two games.
