Uruguay’s starting line-up for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Group-H match against Cape Verde at the Miami Stadium did not feature attacking midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta.
The 32-year-old did not play the side’s opening encounter against Saudi Arabia also. The Flamengo star has been capped 59 times by Uruguay and has scored 13 goals.
Arrascaeta suffered a collarbone fracture he suffered while playing for the Brazilian Serie A side in its Copa Libertadores match against Estudiantes in April.
To make matters worse, he also suffered a calf muscle injury in the lead up to the World Cup. Despite the issue, he continues to remain with the squad.
