And that is it! East Bengal rises to third in the standings as the referee blows the whistle for full-time.
CFC began the second half on a much-improved note but saw the energy come down as the game progressed. EBFC, meanwhile, wasted a plethora of chances with CFC goalkeeper Nawaz making a couple of crucial saves.
However, its persistence paid off with Bipin Singh scoring the winner from close range, thanks to a tiring CFC defence, while Nandhakumar put the final nail in the coffine in added time from a fast break.
The result leaves CFC 12th in the standings, with five points from seven games.

The action so far!
Nothing separates Chennaiyin and East Bengal at the break, as both teams’ managers will be demanding that their players be more clinical.
East Bengal came into the game as the favourite and took the lead with just seven minutes played. CFC lost focus when Elsinho went to the ground with an injury, which allowed Crespo to play Edmund through on goal. The youngster made no mistake in slotting the ball into the back of the net.
The home side was much improved after going down and should have levelled things up with Irfan Yadwad striking the post with a header from close range. However, he made up for the miss with a lovely chip over the opposition goalkeeper after meeting a ball over the top from Laldinliana Renthlei.
EBFC should have restored its lead the following minute, but some brave defending from Mandar Rao Dessai meant that the teams are level with 45 minutes to play.

Earlier in the season, Chennaiyin was knocked out by East Bengal in the Super Cup, following a 0-4 drubbing in what was CFC manager Clifford Miranda’s second competitive game in charge.
Having watched East Bengal and his own team for quite some time now, the Goan tactician will look to conjure a redemption to spark new life into Chennaiyin’s fans.
Will Bruzon add another chapter to cherish in Chennai, or will Miranda finally break the duck at his current club’s home? The answer will play out on a warm evening in April, in a 5 pm kick off.
