When Belgium begins its FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against Egypt on Monday, it will aim to highlight its qualifications as the Group G favourite. However, the Africans can take heart from their previous meeting’s victory and hope that a disciplined strategy will frustrate one of Europe’s top teams.
Despite being somewhat distanced from the generation that finished third in the 2018 World Cup, Belgium travels to the USA as one of the contenders to advance far into the competition.
Belgium should start the season with three points because, on paper, it is better all across the field. Egypt, on the other hand, has little to lose and will support itself in frustrating its opponent long enough for Omar Marmoush and Mohamed Salah to take advantage of counterattack opportunities.
