Norway will look to start its FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign on a high as it faces Iraq in their group-stage clash in Boston on Tuesday.
Its most promising goalscoring option in the team would unsurprisingly be Erling Haaland, the 25-year-old goal machine.
Erling Haaland plays for Manchester City in the Premier League. He scored 38 goals and gave nine assists in the 2025-26 season.
No, Haaland is playing in the FIFA World Cup for the first time. Though he has not played in the tournament, he shattered records in the World Cup qualifiers, scoring 16 goals and assisting two more as Norway returned to the World Cup after 28 years.
Erling Haaland has scored 55 goals for Norway in just 50 appearances. He is already the highest goalscorer for his country.
“He’s our goalscorer. I think he’s the world’s best goalscorer. He’s physically fit, he was given a little bit of a break towards the end of the season. I think gradually he has played better and better in training here. I think he’s where he wants to be and hopefully the team can also give him the service he needs to score goals,” Stale Solbakken before Norway’s opening match.
“If you give Erling chances, he has a tendency to score, so hopefully that continues.”
