elcome to Sportstar’s LIVE coverage of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group-A match between India and Bangladesh at Old Trafford in Manchester on Thursday.
BAN 79/3 (13)
Radha again, Mostary takes one more to leg. Joty with a single to deep midwicket. And Radha finally breaks the partnership! Mostary looks to go over mid-off, and picks out the fielder.
Sobhana Mostary c Deepti Sharma b Radha Yadav 22 (26b)
Sharmin is the new batter, dot to start.
BAN 75/2 (12)
Renuka returns, and Joty gets a thick outside-edge for four! Slightly unlucky for the bowler. Inside-edge for one to leg. Down leg, and Mostary picks out short fine. Chopped to point for one, six runs from the over.
BAN 69/2 (11)
Radha for the first time in this tournament, starts with a wide. Joty punches through covers for two. Clipped off the hip for one. Full ball yorks Mostary twice. Punched straight for one. Another single to close the over, six from it.
BAN 63/2 (10)
Deepti with her second over. Skipper Nigar Sultana Joty out in the middle. Another four runs conceded by Deepti.
BAN 59/2 (9)
Nandni continues. First ball and a shout for an lbw. No review taken. The umpire seems to have warned Nandni for not running on the surface as a follow up of her run up.
She bowls a no ball on the third delivery. A wide to follow and the free-hit remains. Nandni goes for a shorter one and the umpires are happy with the height.
That’s a second warning. Nandni literally running across the wicket. And she gets a wicket in the next ball!
Ferdous hits it straight at the Indian bowler and Nandni holds on to the ball this time. Third time’s the charm!
Ferdous 33 (31) c&b Nandni
BAN 51/1 (8)
Deepti Sharma with her first over. Good start from the all-rounder, just four off it.
BAN 47/1 (7)
Nandni Sharma, after dropping those two catches, comes into the bowling attack. Can she make amends with the ball? Deft from Mostary, as she sends the ball past the short third fielder for a FOUR! A bouncer to end the over.
BAN 40/1 (6)
Shafali returns to close the PowerPlay. FOUR! Ferdous with another boundary, this past Shafali and through mid off. That’s the end of the PowerPlay and Bangladesh has done pretty well, although they have had multiple lifelines courtesy of some poor catching from the Indians.
BAN 32/1 (5)
WHAT IS HAPPENING!? Two dropped catches from this over, both from Nandni Sharma, once at cover and once at short third. As one of the commentators said, it seems to be a virus going around!
Meamwhile Ferdous and Mostary hit one FOUR each in this over.
BAN 22/1 (4)
FOUR! Renuka continues and Ferdous with a delightful straight drive that beats the fielders at mid on and off.
What is happening with Radha Yadav!? That’s the third catch dropped in two matches as she fails to catch Ferdous out. That goes for a FOUR!
BAN 12/1 (3)
Shree Charani, after taking the catch, now has to bowl her first over. Sobhana Mostary the new batter at the crease. Reminder: Charani is currently the No. 1 T20I bowler ahead of the likes of Sophie Ecclestone and Hayley Matthews.
CHANCE! Ferdous sends the ball high up with a top edge and Yastika Bhatia runs some distance and puts in a dive to catch that, but is not able to.
BAN 8/1 (2)
Renuka Singh Thakur, playing for the first time this World Cup, with her first over. Ferdous pulls well but just short of N. Shree Charani over at deep square leg.
Two wides follow, something that has been akin to Renuka’s bowling because of the amount of swing she gets. Good shout for an lbw, but looks like it’s sliding down. The umpire not interested.
WICKET! Dilara tries to pull it towards square leg but she sends the ball straight to Shree Charani. Renuka gets the breakthrough.
Dilara Akter 4 (8) c Shree Charani b Renuka
BAN 3/0 (1)
Juairiya Ferdous and Dilara Akter walk out to open the innings for Bangladesh. Is Shafali going to open with the new ball? Looks like it. Renuka will have to perhaps wait for the second over.
First ball and Dilara almost edges one behind to Richa. The ball slightly turns away from the right-handed Dilara. Thick outside edge follows but Deepti Sharma at slip can only chase it. Radha Yadav at short third gets to it first as the batters take a two.
Just three runs from the over.
National anthems time
Some Bangladesh fans can be seen in the stands as well. Teams walk out as they line up for the anthems. The last time Bangladesh beat India in T20Is was in 2023, in THAT series where we saw Harmanpreet Kaur lose herself (yes, an Eminem reference was attempted here).
Cake cutting time for Deepti soon?
Saba Karim reveals on the broadcast that Jhulan Goswami, whose record is in the jeopardy of being broken by Deepti Sharma, has sent a cake to her former teammate who’s just a wicket away from having the most wickets across formats in international women’s cricket. Will Deepti do it tonight? We shall see.
Two changes for India
So the headline is that Radha Yadav and Renuka Thakur are back for India in place of Arundhati Reddy and Prema Rawat. Expect Renuka to take the new ball to make early breakthroughs, while Radha will bowl through the middle.
Bangladesh playing XI
Juairiya Ferdous, Dilara Akter, Sharmin Akter Supta, Nigar Sultana Joty, Sobhana Mostary, Shorna Akter, Mst Ritu Moni, Nahida Akter, Rabeya Khan. Marufa Akter, Sanjida Akter.
India playing XI
Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Yastika Bhatia, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, Richa Ghosh, Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav, N. Sree Charani, Nandni Sharma, Renuka Singh Thakur.
Toss: Bangladesh wins the toss and opts to bat first
Harmanpreet Kaur and Nigar Sultana Joty head out to the middle for the toss. The coin gets a flip, and it lands in favour of Bangladesh, which will bat first! We want to put a score on the board, says the skipper. It’s a really important game, and a huge opportunity. Unchanged team.
Looks like a good wicket to bat on is Harmanpreet Kaur’s assessment. Hopes her bowling group will perform strongly today. First focus is on winning.
Pitch report
On the broadcast, Google Gemini )other AIs are available) for some reason suggests that the pitch will favour the bowlers even though there is a professional cricketer in Veda Krishnamurthy there to offer her opinion.
Notwithstanding the ongoing advance of the machines, it does look like the spinners might have a part to play today.
Will Deepti break Jhulan Goswami's record tonight?
Deepti Sharma is just one wicket away from breaking Jhulan Goswami’s record of the most wickets in international cricket. The pair is currently tied on 355 wickets apiece, and a single wicket tonight will be enough to put Deepti top outright.
She had the opportunity to take the record against South Africa, but went wicketless in her spell.
Can Harmanpreet Kaur find her form?
It’s been a tough World Cup so far for Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Her three outings with the bat have yielded a collective 72 runs at an average of 24 and a strike-rate of 109.09, barely over a run-a-ball.
Will tonight be the night the Indian captain finally comes good in this tournament?
A one-sided head-to-head record
India needs to win today in order to stay in the tournament, so a match against Bangladesh is exactly what the doctor will have ordered for it.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s side has won 20 out of the 23 meetings between the pair, last suffering defeat on an away trip to Bangladesh in 2023.
In other news: England becomes first semifinalist
In news away from Manchester, we had our first semifinalist confirmed last night as England defeated West Indies by 38 runs at the Lord’s Cricket Ground to become the first team to seal its spot in the final four.
However, the match was not without controversy as West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews was sent back after a DRS review where UltraEdge appeared to show a spike despite a clear gap between bat and ball.

Hi!
We are back, once again. And it’s an India match, once again. The Women in Blue, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, have made their lives slightly harder after losing to South Africa in their previous group-stage fixture. That defeat means that India will now to win against Bangladesh to keep itself in semifinals contention before facing the unstoppable juggernaut that is Australia in the final group-stage match.
