Indian shooter Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar was on Friday disqualified from the final of the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions (3P) event at the ISSF World Cup here due to an equipment-related technical issue flagged before the medal round.
Prior to the final, the two-time Olympian had put up a strong performance, finishing fifth in the qualification round with a solid score of 592. However, in the post competition equipment check held before the medal round for the top 10 shooters, the ISSF technicians found fault with the weapon the Indian shooter was using.
“He has been using the same weapon for last one year. In the pre competition equipment control before the start of the tournament, the weapon was passed. He used the same thing in qualification.

“Then, in the post competition check, they said there is a discrepancy in the measurement of the weapon. The Indian contingent appealed to the ISSF jury of appeals and they presented a case that it passed the pre-competition equipment control. But the ISSF did not agree and the disqualification stood,” a source in the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) told PTI.
While the technical issue prevented him from competing for a podium finish in the final, it can also impact the 25-year-old shooter’s selection for the Asian Games as scores in this blue-riband competition carry weightage.
“We might have to hold a selection trials in that case,” the source said..

He claimed an individual silver medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions in the ISSF World Championships in Cairo last year after putting up an incredible performance to equal his qualification national record of 597/600 along the way.
This year he successfully defended his continental title in New Delhi by hitting a spectacular 10.7 on his final shot in the Asian Championship.
At the last World Cup Final in Doha, he won a silver medal under the revamped format.
