Three players of Indian origin have been named in preliminary or final squads for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, set to be played in the United States of America, Mexico and Canada between June 11 and July 19, 2026.
Sarpreet Singh, born to Indian parents, has been included in the New Zealand squad announced on Wednesday. The midfielder, born in Auckland, was eligible to play for India through lineage, but chose to play for New Zealand instead.
The 27-year-old made his senior national team debut in 2018 and has been a mainstay in the squad.

Mason has an Indian mother and has played for the youth sides of Real Madrid, Southampton and Aston Villa. He earned his maiden senior team call-up in March this year, but he has yet to make his senior-team debut.

Meanwhile, both of Tahsin Mohammed’s parents are Indian. Tahsin’s father, Jamshid, is from Thalassery, while his mother, Shaima, hails from Valapattanam in Kannur district.
The 19-year-old winger became the first Indian-origin player to play in the Qatar Stars League, the top division of men’s football in that country. He has played twice for the senior team, with the latest appearance being in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Afghanistan in June 2024.
