Mohun Bagan Super Giant produced a spectacular late comeback to defeat Punjab FC 3-2 with an added-time winner, in an exciting Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 fixture at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday.

Punjab provided a stark contrast to Mohun Bagan’s sluggish start and struck first in the 12th minute when Daniel Ramirez calmly finished from close range after a finely set cross by Mohammad Uvais placed him with the opportunity. Mohun Bagan responded strongly and found the equaliser in the 29th minute through Jamie Maclaren, who capitalised on a clever assist from Robson Robinho.

The second half saw the contest reach a higher tempo as Punjab regained the lead around the hour mark through Nigerian forward Nsungusi Effiong, who volleyed home from a precise delivery by his compatriot Bede Osuji.

With the match entering the final quarter of the action, Mohun Bagan looked in trouble before head coach Sergio Lobera made crucial changes in the attack.

Substitute Sahal Abdul Samad brought the host back into the contest with a superb long-range strike that restored parity in the 73rd minute. The equaliser shifted the momentum in Mohun Bagan’s favour, and the host snatched victory in stoppage time when another substitute, Jason Cummings, found the decisive goal in the 90+1 minute.

The win lifted Mohun Bagan to second place with 17 points from eight matches, just behind Mumbai City FC (18 points), and kept it firmly in the title race.
