East Bengal midfielder Miguel Figueira is set to move to rival Mohun Bagan Super Giant before the upcoming season, as the Mariners look to strengthen their squad for the Indian Super League.
Figueira joined the Red-and-Gold brigade and scored three goals while providing 10 assists as the club won the Indian men’s top flight after a 22-year wait. Playing as a No. 10, he became the key architect of East Bengal’s attacks and bagged the Golden Ball award for his exploits.
His move to Bagan could be the first major transfer this season, but it hinges on his medicals, only after which the paperwork will be complete.
“Hello, Amago fans, I’m stopping by to say goodbye to all of you and to say that it has been an honour for me to play for this great club,” Figueira wrote on Instagram.
“I wish the club and all its supporters the very best of luck in the future. Thank you for everything!”
Bagan missed out on the ISL title on goal difference last season, with its biggest worry being the lack of an effective No. 10 after the exit of Greg Stewart.

Despite signing Brazilian winger Robson Robinho, the squad imbalance was something former coach Jose Francisco Molina had discussed before his exit, following the AIFF Super Cup.
Figueira’s exit is expected to solve that problem, with him expected to pair up with Jamie Maclaren in front.
The new season of the ISL is set to begin on September 4, while the domestic season is set to begin with the Durand Cup on July 25.
