India had a day to forget at the World Squash Championships on Saturday with Ramit Tandon and Velavan Senthilkumar bowing out of the competition in the opening round.

Tandon lost to Egypt’s World No. 21 Kareem El Torkey 6-11, 11-7, 6-11, 0-11, while World No. 50 Senthilkumar went down to World No. 5 Victor Crouin of France, who won in straight games (11-8, 11-8, 11-3).

On Friday, Veer Chotrani had edged past compatriot Abhay Singh, the 25th seed, 3-2 (14-12, 8-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-2) to advance to the second round. But he will be up against the odd, facing World No. 1 and defending champion Mostafa Asal in the round of 32 on Sunday.

No Indian women is participating in the competition.
