The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reviewing various terms and conditions before deciding on further action against teams violating Indian Premier League (IPL) protocols.
This follows an incident in which Riyan Parag, captain of Rajasthan Royals, was caught vaping in the dressing room during a match against Punjab Kings. He escaped major sanctions and was fined just 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct, classified as a Level 1 offence.
“We are exploring some other options in terms of how to treat the teams which are violating the norms. We will be taking some actions, but we need to look at terms and conditions before taking a call on how the teams should behave,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said on Saturday.
“It is not only the players or the officials, as a team they have to maintain certain decorum so that the image of IPL is never adversely affected. So to ensure that we have to take a call and we will be taking some action,” he added.
The secretary also clarified that the Board has not received any communication from Punjab Police regarding the Parag incident. Vaping is prohibited in India under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA) 2019, which bans the production, sale and use of such devices.

The Parag episode marked the second protocol breach for the Rajasthan Royals this season, following a recent case where team manager Romi Bhinder was fined for using a mobile phone in the dugout.
Playoff venues to be decided in a couple of days
The BCCI secretary also said that a decision on venues for the IPL playoffs and final will be taken over the next couple of days. Saikia, a former First-Class cricketer, added that the Board will review the Impact Player rule after the tournament concludes.
“This is going on for the last two years, we will be reviewing it after this tournament is over,” he said, adding: “At least in the middle of the tournament, we cannot take any call. There is no official request made to us that we should revisit this particular impact player proposition, so there is no such request. But if it comes from the team, then we will have to take a call, but till now, no such situation has arisen.”
Asked whether India will travel to Bangladesh later this year, the secretary remained non-committal.
“Our whole schedule is packed. After the IPL, there’s a series against Afghanistan, followed by tour of England. Once that is over, we will think about the remaining part of the season.”
