Alphonso Davies was not part of the Canada starting line-up for the second match in succession ahead of the team’s FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B clash against Qatar on Thursday.
The Bayern Munich fullback had scored Canada’s first-ever goal in the World Cup four years ago, finding the net within two minutes.
Davies picked up a hamstring injury in the run-up to the World Cup, in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal, playing for Bayern Munich against Paris Saint-Germain.
He did however take part in some of the warm-ups during the team’s training session on Monday. A return could be round the corner.
“He (Davies) is one of the best players on our team, he’s a world-class player so obviously to have him in the lineup would be amazing,” defender Joel Waterman told reporters.
“We have complete confidence in the roster from one to 26, and whoever can step in to play, they’re going to do a great job.”
