Chennaiyin FC continued to be relegation-threatened after falling to a 1-4 loss to NorthEast United FC in an Indian Super League 2025-26 fixture at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Shillong on Sunday.
This loss kept the former champion in 13th place on nine points from 12 matches, ahead of Mohammedan SC by six points.
If the Clifford Miranda-coached side had eked out a draw then that result would have confirmed Mohammedan’s drop to the second tier.
