Brazil will look to start its FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign on a high as it takes on Morocco in its group-stage opener in New York on Saturday.
The five-time world champion has roped in Real Madrid’s most successful coach, Carlo Ancelotti, with hopes of redemption, and will hope the giant-killers from North Africa do not spoil their party in the USA.
Morocco, on the other hand, stunned the footballing world with a fourth-place finish in the World Cup four years ago. Entering the 2026 edition as the reigning African champion, it will look to improve on that in the USA, Mexico and Canada.
Slavko Vinčić from Slovenia will be the referee in Brazil vs Morocco at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Vinčić has been an international-listed referee for FIFA since 2010. The 45-year-old refereed the 2024 UEFA Champions League final at Wembley Stadium.
Vincic has been involved in controversies both on and off the field. In 2020, he was arrested for his alleged involvement in prostitution and drug trafficking. However, he was eventually cleared of all wrongdoing.
Vincic was the referee in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, and recently officiated in the UCL quarterfinal second-leg this season. He was also the man-in-the-middle in the EURO 2024 semifinal between France and Spain.
