Serena and Venus Williams will reunite for the women’s doubles competition at Wimbledon after receiving a wild card from the All England Club on Tuesday.
The invitation comes less than two weeks before the start of the Grand Slam and follows Serena’s return to professional tennis after nearly four years away from the sport. The 44-year-old made her comeback at the Queen’s Club Championships in London last week, while Venus, who turns 46 on Wednesday, has continued to compete on a limited schedule.
The Williams sisters are among the most successful doubles teams in tennis history, having won 14 Grand Slam titles together, including six Wimbledon crowns. Their first Wimbledon title came in 2000, while their most recent triumph at the All England Club was in 2016.
Serena marked her return by winning her opening doubles match alongside Canada’s Victoria Mboko at Queen’s Club. However, the pair later withdrew from the tournament after Mboko suffered a knee injury during her singles match. Serena was also scheduled to partner Karolina Muchova in doubles at the Berlin Open later on Tuesday.
The sisters last teamed up at the 2022 U.S. Open, where they were eliminated in the opening round. It was their first doubles appearance together in more than four years.
