Oli McBurnie scored a stoppage time goal to help Hull City to 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in the EFL Championship Playoff final at the Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday.

The result ensured that Hull became the third side to earn a promotion to the Premier League for 2026/27, thus ending the club’s nine-season spell outside the league.

Coventry City and Ipswich Town are other two teams who qualified to the England top flight courtesy of a top-two finish in the EFL Championship.

Coventry, coached by former Chelsea player Frank Lampard, won the Championship with 95 points. It last played in the Premier League during the 2000/01 season and even dropped as low as the fourth division. But the successful season under Lampard ended the Sky Blues’ 25-year wait for return to the top flight.

Ipswich was second in the league with 84 points after being relegated to the Championship only last season.

These three teams will replace the relegated clubs. So far, only Wolverhampton Wanderers and Burnley are confirmed to drop down, with West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur locked in a final matchday battle to avoid a relegation.
