Norway’s return to the World Cup after 28 years is already bringing plenty of colour and celebratory cheer in the stands.

As Norway were taking on Iraq at the Boston Stadium, Norwegian fans in their bright red shirts were seen doing a rowing chant from the stands, which has caught the eye of many.

The supporters were doing a synchronised rowing gesture while shouting ‘Hu!’, drawing similarities to Iceland’s Viking clap from the 2016 European Championships.

The rowing gesture is likely linked to the rowing of a Viking longships, which is linked to Norway’s culture.

In a clip on social media, which is now going viral, Norway supporters were playfully rowing up an escalator at the Boston Garden.
