Brazil’s pursuit of a sixth FIFA World Cup trophy will begin when it takes on Morocco at the MetLife Stadium — known as the New York/New Jersey Stadium — in New York on June 13.

Coming into the tournament, the availability of iconic winger Neymar was a matter of heavy discussion.

The 34-year-old, who has appeared in Brazil’s last three World Cup campaigns, has struggled with form and fitness, but manager Carlo Ancelotti decided to take him to the World Cup regardless.

Why is Neymar not playing in Brazil vs Morocco?

Neymar is not playing in Brazil vs Morocco because he is recuperating from a calf injury, although he is expected to return later in the tournament.

“Neymar is working very hard to recover as quickly as possible,” Ancelotti said. “We called him up not only for his football ability, which is indisputable, but also for the experience and example he can give to the younger players in the group.”

Despite not making it to the matchday squad, Neymar has travelled with the team to the stadium.
