Japan will be without the services of its star winger Kaoru Mitoma for the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026.

The 29-year-old Mitoma, who plays for Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League, was not named in the Samurai Blue squad after he suffered a hamstring injury last month for which he underwent surgery.
Mitoma has 31 caps for Japan and has nine goals.
Japan is in Group F with Netherlands, Sweden and Tunisia.
