India added three gold medals to its tally at the ongoing Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships 2026 in Hong Kong, China, including a 1-2 podium finish in the men’s long jump event on Saturday.
Shahnavaz leapt to a best of 7.84m to clinch gold in the long jump, ahead of compatriot Jithin who recorded a best jump of 7.66m.
India also secured gold in the men’s high jump event after Basant recorded 2.20m to win the top prize.
Nikhil Chandrashekar bagged gold in the men’s 3000m steeplechase after he clocked 9:25.44s to take the gold medal.
In the women’s 200m, Aarti took home bronze with a timing of 24.12s.
Meanwhile, the mixed 4x400m relay team of Piyush Raj, Tahura Khatun, Mohammed Ashfaq, Neeru Pathak clinched silver with a timing of 3:20.24s, but was later disqualified for lane infringement.
This comes a day after Pooja Singh produced a record-breaking performance in the women’s high jump, clearing 1.93m to win gold.
A 48-member Indian contingent, comprising 30 men and 18 women, is competing at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships, which is being held from May 28 to 31.
