Mohammedan Sporting Club became the first-ever team to get relegated from the Indian Super League.
The Black Panthers fell to a 0-4 loss against Mumbai City FC in a league-stage fixture on Friday at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
This loss, Mohammedan’s ninth of the 2025-26 season, confirmed its drop to the Indian Football League (formerly I-League), India’s second tier of men’s club football.
The side is rooted to the bottom rung with three points from 12 matches, which means it will not be able to leapfrog Chennaiyin FC’s nine points from 11 matches.
Mohammedan had won the I-League 2023-24 season to secure promotion to ISL.
