With a record 48 countries scheduled to compete in the biggest edition of football’s main event, the FIFA World Cup 2026 has finally arrived.
The tournament, co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, will have 104 matches, a considerable increase from the 64 that were played in earlier iterations.

The competing nations now focus on a month-long pursuit of glory after finishing their pre-tournament preparations.
Argentina enters the tournament as the defending champion and as one of the favourites, while Brazil, a record five-time winner, will hope to return to glory days under legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The opening match will see co-host Mexico take on South Africa at the Mexico City Stadium, also known as the Azteca Stadium, on June 11.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 can be watched on the Unite8 Sports Network, including their SD and HD channels.
Moreover, it can also be live-streamed on ZEE5.
The opening match of the FIFA World Cup 2026 can be watched for free on Doordarshan. However, the national broadcaster of India will broadcast only select matches of the tournament.
