Thanya Shadakshari broke Richa Mishra’s eight-year-old record while winning the women’s 400m medley title at the National aquatics championships in Ahmedabad on Friday.
Thanya clocked 4:56.78 to improve upon Richa’s record by more than two seconds and log the ‘best Indian time.’
Tanishi Gupta lowered the National mark twice as she went on to win the women’s 100m butterfly gold.
In the morning, Tanishi broke Nina Venkatesh’s 2023 record of 1:02.51 by registering 1:01.97 in the heats. She lowered her time further to 1:00.07 in the final to emerge as the winner by recording the ‘best Indian time.’
Tamil Nadu swimmers bagged the 4x100m medley mixed relay with a new mark.
Men: 200m freestyle: Aneesh S. Gowda (Kar) 1:50.65; 100m butterfly: B. Benedicton Rohit (TN) 53.17.
Women: 100m backstroke: Pratyasa Ray (Odi) 1:04.75; 100m breaststroke: Saanvi Deshwal (Mah) 1:13.22; 100m butterfly: Tanishi Gupta (Kar) 1:00.07 (NMR, Old 1:01.97, Tanishi Gupta, 2026); 400m medley: Thanya Shadakshari (Kar) 4:56.78 (NMR, Old 4:59.17, Richa Mishra, 2018); 4x100m medley mixed relay: Tamil Nadu (Dhivashree Kesavan, Danush Suresh, B.
