At just 15 years and 91 days old, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could become the youngest player ever to debut for India when the team takes on Ireland in the first T20I against Ireland at Stormont on Friday.
Sachin Tendulkar, who was only 16 years and 205 days old when he played his first match for India against Pakistan in 1989, currently holds the record for youngest ever debutant.
The 16-year-old’s potential debut will also mark the first time that a teenager has played for the country in this decade.
Before Sooryavanshi, the last time we had a teenager make his debut for India was Prithvi Shaw in 2018 at just 18 years and 329 days old.
Shaw made his debut against West Indies on October 4 in the first Test and scored a century, becoming the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut.
Shaw has played five matches for India across formats and since lost his place in the side.
