Florentino Pérez has secured another four-year term as president of Real Madrid after winning the club’s elections on Sunday. It was the first contested election the club had held in 20 years, with Pérez elected unopposed in 2009, 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2025.

Real Madrid’s official television channel reported that Pérez defeated challenger Enrique Riquelme, although the club is yet to release the official vote count.

Pérez’s re-election is expected to strengthen the possibility of José Mourinho returning for a second spell at the club. Mourinho, who managed Madrid between 2010 and 2013, featured prominently in Pérez’s campaign material.

“We are going to keep working so that Real Madrid keeps winning more titles,” Pérez told supporters during a victory celebration that extended into the early hours of Monday morning.

The 79-year-old first served as Madrid president from 2000 to 2006 before returning to the role in 2009. During his tenure, the club has won seven European Cups, contributing significantly to its record haul of 15 continental titles.
