Co-host USA is currently leading Australia 2-0 in a FIFA World Cup 2026 Group-D fixture at the Seattle Stadium on Friday, with a Round of 32 spot up for grabs.

A Cameron Burgess own goal got the Americans ahead in the 11th minute, before Alex Freeman’s 43rd-minute goal doubled their lead.

However, Freeman’s goal was initially disallowed. He was flagged offside. However, a VAR check found that he was on side, and it was his teammate Folarin Balogun who was offside and didn’t touch the ball.

The move started with a free-kick which saw Antonee Robinson lay it off for Sergino Dest at the edge of the box. Dest’s shot was blocked and Freeman chased the loose ball to head it in.

At half-time, USA led Australia 2-0.
