United States of America continued its winning run at the FIFA World Cup 2026 and bettered Australia 2-0 in their Group D match in Seattle on Friday.

This performances adds to Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s momentum after its opening round 4-1 win against Paraguay.

Has USA qualified for FIFA World Cup 2026?

The second win takes USA’s tally to six points from two games, which assures it of a place in the round of 32.

Australia has three points after two games while Turkiye and Paraguay, both yet to open their account, face off later on Friday. In the final round, USA takes on Turkiye and Australia faces Paraguay.

In these set of fixtures, if Turkiye beats USA and Australia beats Paraguay, three teams — USA, Australia, and Turkiye — could end up with six points each (i.e. if Turkiye beats Paraguay on Friday).

Even though this scenario does not guarantee a top-two finish for USA, the side will still qualify for the knockouts as one of the eight best third-placed teams.

If Turkiye and Paraguay draw in their game on Friday, USA will be assured of a place in the top-two in Group C.
