English fast bowler David Payne has been ruled out of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) owing to an ankle injury, Sunrisers Hyderabad announced on Thursday.
Payne had come into the SRH squad as a replacement for injured Australian all-rounder Jack Edwards and played the first two matches for the franchise, picking up two wickets.
The left-arm pacer returned figures of 2/35 in three overs after coming in as an Impact Sub in the season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru before going wicketless (0/35 in two overs) against Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Sunrisers are yet to announce a replacement for Payne, whose injury is the latest in a series of setbacks for the franchise. While full-time captain Pat Cummins is yet to recover fully from a lumbar bone stress injury, England pace-bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse was sidelined for the rest of the season due to a hand injury. He has been replaced by Sri Lankan quick Dilshan Madushanka in the squad.
SRH is currently fourth in the standings with two wins from five matches.
