Portugal finally found a win in the FIFA World Cup 2026 when it thrashed Uzbekistan 5-0 in their group-stage match in Houston, Texas, on Tuesday.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, while Nuno Mendes, Rafael Leao and and own goal by Abduvohid Nematov saw the UEFA Nations League champion go top of its group with four points, with Colombia, the previous topper, yet to play its second group-stage match against DR Congo.
The 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup is featuring a record 48 teams, with the top two teams from each group and the best eight third-placed teams qualifying for the next round, the round of 32.

Portugal faces Colombia in its last group-stage match. A win in that match will secure Portugal’s spot in the next round of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
If Portugal draws with Colombia, the results of the other matches could determine the fate of Cristiano Ronaldo and Co.
If Portugal loses Colombia, it can still qualify as one of the top two teams if Colombia beats DR Congo and the Leopards draw with Uzbekistan.
