France beat Iraq 3-0 in a rain-interrupted FIFA World Cup 2026 Group I encounter at the Philadelphia Stadium on Monday to seal its berth in the knockouts.
Kylian Mbappe scored the opening goal before heavy downpour and thunderstorms forced the players indoors for nearly 90 minutes.
Post the restart, France capitalised on a mistake from the back which allowed Mbappe to score his second and take his tournament tally to four.
Mbappe is now level with Germany’s Miroslav Klose for 16 World Cup goals with only Argentina’s Lionel Messi ahead of him with 18.
Iraq made another error while playing out the back and was punished again by Ousmane Dembele, who finished after being set up by Michael Olise.
