FULL-TIME
Full-time; India 0-2 Jamaica
That’s that! A huge roar as Jamaica books its spot in the final where it will face Nigeria. Meanwhile, India will have to hope for a third-placed finish when it takes on Zimbabwe in that playoff. Khalid Jamal’s substitutions, except one where he took Noufal off in 20 minutes after introducing him, did seem to work but the fresh legs perhaps weren’t given enough time on the pitch to create an impact. Yet, India’s defence, led by the busy Sandesh Jhingan, held its own against the 71st-ranked Jamaica, which more often than not gave off the vibe that it was taking things easy. Another area of concern for India will be Ryan Williams’ injury and the extent of it.
90+5'- IND 0-2 JAM; Close!
Great ball in from Chhangte, finding a towering Jhingan. The centre-back gets connection with the ball but his header goes behind for a goal kick.
Three minutes added
All India has time for is a consolation goal. That will at least infuse some confidence ahead of the third-place match against Zimbabwe.
88'- IND 0-2 JAM; Chance for India! And a change
Sanan comes on for Farukh. Seconds before that, it looked like it was Akash Mishra who had a chance to find the net with a side-footed volley, but the attempt was blocked from close-range.
84'- IND 0-2 JAM; Chance!
Vikram gets the ball on the left, he squares it to Rahim Ali outside the box. He then tees up a shot, trying to curl it into the top right corner, but it balloons over.
81'- IND 0-2 JAM; Change, but wait!?
Noufal has been brought off after little over 20 mins. Vikram comes on. Ricky Shabong also comes on.
78'- IND 0-2 JAM; GOALLLLL!
It’s Dixon who finally gets his goal!! The winger, who interestingly plays for Charlton Athletic at The Valley, drops his shoulder with great effect and moves past a few players to thread the ball through the legs of Akash Mishra and send the ball at the far post, in the bottom-left corner.
76'- IND 0-1 JAM; Chance for the Jamaicans
Dwight Merrick, just brought on, has the chance to send the ball into the back of the net from around the penalty spot during a corner routine, but he gets underneath it and sends it over the crossbar.
75'- IND 0-1 JAM; Vikram coming on
That’s exciting. Vikram Partap Singh himself is known to be quite explosive down the wing, someone who isn’t afraid to take that shot.
70'- IND 0-1 JAM; Drinks break
Last 20 minutes or so for India to equalise things. Bringing on a Sanan might bring India to do what Edmund or a Chhangte have not been able to do: take on players and enter the box. A Macarton in the midfield could also inject some creativity through the middle. But we are not the India coach, so wait and watch is what we will have to do.
69'- IND 0-1 JAM; Defence resolute
Jhingan is having a busy day at the office, constantly finding himself at the centre of action as Jamaica searches for that second goal.
65'- IND 0-1 JAM; Decent connection
Noufal shows a glimpse of promise. The corner is kept alive inside the box and the ball falls towards the newly brought on forward, who tees up a volley. He connects well but its past the goal.
64'- IND 0-1 JAM; Corner
Chhangte goes for goal but finds the wall first. Corner was gained from the move.
63'- IND 0-1 JAM; Under the pump
For the first time in this match, I feel, Jamaica is feeling a slight bit of pressure. India has come into this half with the intention of scoring the next goal in this fixture, and that has been backed by the players on the field. And the Blue Tigers win a free-kick at a distance that is well within range for a direct attempt.
59'- IND 0-1 JAM; Chance!
It was Dixon who had the chance to double the lead, but his left-footed shot is not connected well, and it sends the ball way off target.
59'- IND 0-1 JAM; Change for India
Williams makes way for debutant PN Noufal.
58'- IND 0-1 JAM; Worry for India
Ryan Williams walking gingerly, led by a physio, who has signalled for a substitution.

YELLOW CARD
57'- IND 0-1 JAM; Yellow
Sandesh Jhingan, as he has been doing all evening, comes charging from the backline and slides in for a tackle. But unlike the other ones, this one is deemed malicious.
53'- IND 0-1 JAM; OFFSIDE!
The net rattles but the move is flagged offside! A slip from a Jamaican defender lit up Williams’ eyes. He picked up the ball and squared it to Rahim Ali, who just had to turn and shoot. He takes a tad bit too much and the goalie makes himself big. But the ball is kept alive and an onrushing Chhangte smashes the ball into the back of the net. But by then, the lines referee had raised the flag.
51'- IND 0-1 JAM; High line again
Just like in the opening moments of the first half, now too India has opted for a high line, with the forwards and midfielders going for that press to force the Jamaicans send an awry pass India’s way.
49'- IND 0-1 JAM; Close!
Williams almost pounces on a miss-pass from the Jamaicans, with both him and Rahim chasing after that loose ball. But that move doesn’t end in India’s favour, and perhaps only shows a glimmer of hope to the Blue Tigers.
Change for India meanwhile
Edmund has made way for forward Rahim Ali.
Second half begins
Ryan Williams gets the ball rolling, sending it to Gurpreet who sends it long. It remains to be seen whether the likes of Chhangte can themselves more involved in this half.

HALFTIME
HALF-TIME; India 0-1 Jamaica
Clarke’s early strike remains the difference. India has shown stability and intent to go forward but the lack of involvement of its main attackers in Ryan Williams, Chhangte, and Edmund has created close to no chances for the Blue Tigers. Meanwhile, the Jamaicans seemed to be happy just to pass it around and not really have the hunger to double their lead before the break. That may change quite quickly in the second half if they want to put the game to bed.
43'- IND 0-1 JAM; Williams fouls, and SAVE
Jamaica on the up in these closing minutes. India and Khalid Jamal wouldn’t want another goal against them. And just then, a sighter comes hurtling towards Gurpreet who gets low to his left and saves it for a corner.
40'- IND 0-1 JAM; Farukh fouls
The Indian tries to win that second ball and his hands catch a Jamaican, and brings him down. Referee right there and he calls a foul.
36'- IND 0-1 JAM; A problem
Looks like the balls aren’t to the Jamaicans’ liking, as they reject two spheres inside a minute. Play continues.
33'- IND 0-1 JAM; Good move but goes bust
Some clean, quick passes between the Indian players, with Jamaican players right at their heels. Bheke looks to find Poojary on the right flank, but the full-back just lets the ball go over the line. India still has the ball now, hoping to create its first proper chance.
29'- IND 0-1 JAM; Counter!
Chhangte tried to whip in a cross but that’s cleared by Jamaica, which turns into a counter-attack. In the end, Nikhil Poojary boots the ball behind for a corner but that doesn’t amount to anything.
28'- IND 0-1 JAM; Throw in
Jhingan shields the ball and lets it go out as India wins a throw in. A long one to come in I suppose. But a shorter one taken.
27'- IND 0-1 JAM; Freekick for India
Jeakson with steady feet and he wins India a freekick. Farukh with the cross now.
23'- IND 0-1 JAM; Drinks break
Khalid Jamil with a few words. For sure, India needs to use its width and get the likes of Edmund and Chhangte get more involved. Williams will need to get himself into more positions for shots or ones where he could receive crosses.
20'- IND 0-1 JAM; Passing it around
For a minute or two, India has had the chance to pass the ball around, trying for that final ball. But the Blue Tigers give the ball back to the Jamaicans, who then try to build from the back for another move. But the tempo has become balanced now, after Jamaica dominated the first 15 minutes or so.
17'- IND 0-1 JAM; SAVE!
Gurpreet with an important save there, preventing Kaheim Dixon his goal from close range. Jamaica is finding it quite easy to find the gaps and release the speedy wingers for an opportunity.
13'- IND 0-1 JAM; A back five then
Ryan Williams is the sole blue shirt up front, with a middle-four of Edmund and Chhangte on the wings. And Jeakson and Farukh in the midfield. Akash Mishra looks to occupy one of the places in a back-five. India now with its back against the wall and Jamaica isn’t stopping with the constant attempts.
8'- IND 0-1 JAM; GOALLLL!
Courtney Clarke with a beautiful finish! It began when Jamaica counter-attacked with a quick move, involving a through ball. That saw Gurpreet block a dangerous pass-shot from the left hand side. But the ball was kept alive by the Reggae Boyz. That saw Clarke linger at the edge of the box, more towards the left side. He used an Indian player as a shield and whipped it past him, and past an outstretched Gurpreet, to send the ball into the top right corner.
6'- IND 0-0 JAM; Will it work?
As guessed earlier on, it seems like Akash Mishra is operating just in front of the defence, in the midfield. He’s not in his usual left-back position, where Roshan is running up and down.
4'- IND 0-0 JAM; Corner dealt with
Fuller whips in a cross from the corner but an Indian player comes forward at the near post to boot it away.
2'- IND 0-0 JAM; High line
India doesn’t mind playing the press, with the likes of Sandesh Jhingan charging in towards the middle of the park to intercept. But now Jamaica takes control of the ball and begin attacking.
KICKOFF!
Jamaica gets the proceedings underway at The Valley in London! Clad in their yellow and green kit, the Reggae Boyz attack from right to left against the Indians, wearing their blue.
National anthems
A smattering of fans, for both India and Jamaica, can be seen present against the red of the seats at The Valley.
In case you didn't know
The stadium for tonight’s match, The Valley, is home to Charlton Athletic, and has been so since the early 1900s. Can India create history at this historic arena?
The 'Ryan Williams' factor at the Unity Cup
Neeladri Bhattacharjee looks at how the Bengaluru FC striker can influence play in this tournament:
India vs Jamaica head-to-head record
The last time the Blue Tigers played on English soil was in 2002, also against Jamaica, when the sides met twice in friendly matches in Watford and Wolverhampton.
Jamaica 3-0 India (August 29, 2002)
Jamaica 0-0 India (September 1, 2002)
Jamaica starting XI
Coniah Boyce-Clarke (gk), Odin Samuels-Smith, Damion Lowe, Kyle Ming, Brandon Cover, Isaac Hayden, C. Clarke, Tyrese Hall, Nickalia Fuller, Bailey Cadamarteri, Kaheim Dixon
Some pretty strong names in the line-up. You have multiple players playing in England’s second and third divisions, including the likes of Cadamarteri (Wrexham) and Dixon (Charlton), both of whom play in the Championship.
India starting XI
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (gk), Rahul Bheke (c), Naorem Roshan Singh, Sandesh Jhingan, Akash Mishra, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Jeakson Singh, Ryan Williams, Farukh Choudhary, Edmund Lalrindika, Nikhil Poojary
It looks like Khalid Jamil has gone ultra-defensive and chosen for a back-five, or we’ll see either of Akash Mishra or Nikhil Poojary play a higher role. Perhaps one of the defenders could also be slotted alongside Jeakson Singh in the midfield. We have seen the coach use Anwar Ali in the middle of the park before.
