Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Rajat Patidar scored a blistering half-century against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday night, setting a record for the joint-second fastest fifty hit by an RCB batter in the history of the IPL.
Romario Shepherd currently holds the record for the fastest fifty ever by an RCB batter, when he scored a 14 ball half century against Chennai Super Kings in 2025.
Patidar looked well set to break Shepherd’s record when he was at 38 runs off 10 balls, but slowed things for a few deliveries after Virat Kohli got dismissed by Hardik Pandya after scoring a well-made half century.

The RCB captain shares the record for the second fastest fifty with Chris Gayle, who also took only 17 balls against Pune Warriors India in 2013 when he scored that memorable 175*.
Patidar was eventually dismissed for 53 runs off 20 balls by Mitchell Santner, but his whirlwind innings has handed RCB a massive advantage in the game and set the tone for a 240 plus total.
