Scotland’s 28-year hiatus from the FIFA World Cup 2026 was ended by head coach Steve Clarke who took charge in 2019.
Since then, Scotland has made its way steadily out of international footballing wilderness.
In 2020, Clarke guided the Scots to Euro 2020, their first major tournament appearance since 1998. Another Euro qualification followed in 2024, before his side punched its return to the World Cup.
His rugged defensive approach, though, will be put to the test in a challenging group comprising Brazil, Morocco and Haiti.
