Urguay heads into a must-win contest, needing to defeat pre-tournament favourite Spain in order to advance to the knockouts of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

History is not Marcelo Bielsa’s side either. In four meetings against the European side till date, Uruguay has never picked a win. Spain has won twice while two have ended in a draw.

Both those draws came at World Cups — first a 2-2 draw in 1950 and then a 0-0 stalemate in 1990.
