Mohun Bagan Super Giant missed the chance to move clear at the top of the table after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Inter Kashi FC in their Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 fixture at the Salt Lake Stadium on Tuesday.

The result saw Mohun Bagan end up level on 22 points with East Bengal FC after 11 matches, though the latter retained the top spot with a better goal difference. The two Kolkata giants are now set for a virtual title decider in the derby scheduled on May 17.

Mohun Bagan dominated possession for most of the contest but struggled to break down a compact and disciplined Inter Kashi defence. The visitor, which parted ways with head coach Antonio Lopez Habas just a day earlier, packed its box with bodies and successfully denied the host any clear route to the goal.

Despite spending long periods under pressure, Inter Kashi created the best chance of the match in the ninth minute when Mohammad Asif failed to connect properly and missed an open goal from close range.

Seeking greater attacking urgency after the break, Mohun Bagan head coach Sergio Lobera introduced striker Jamie Maclaren and experienced wing-back Subhasish Bose. However, Inter Kashi’s organised defending continued to frustrate the host, which looked like a rudderless boat once inside the striking zone. Mohun Bagan came close on several occasions in the second half, but its forwards lacked the finishing touch needed to force a breakthrough.

East Bengal had suffered a similar setback against Punjab FC a day earlier, giving Mohun Bagan the opportunity to move ahead in the standings with a victory over an Inter Kashi side which had struggled for consistency in recent matches.

But, much like its arch-rival, Mohun Bagan faltered in the attacking third, failing to find the right approach against an ultra-defensive opponent that arrived with the clear intention of securing a point.

Inter Kashi remains in the 10th position with 12 points from 11 matches.
