Switzerland was awarded the first penalty of the FIFA World Cup 2026 against Qatar at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on June 13.
It was awarded in the 13th minute of the match after goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada fouled Remo Freuler inside the penalty area.
There was then a lengthy check as the Video Assistant Referee checked for two potential offsides in the buildup.
Breel Embolo then put away the penalty, sending Abunda the wrong way as he slotted into the bottom-left corner.
