Finn Surman scored the opening goal for New Zealand in its FIFA World Cup 2026 Group-G encounter against Egypt at BC Place in Vancouver on Sunday.
The defender was unmarked during a corner kick and headed in the cross from Tim Payne during the 15th minute.
The 22-year old plies his trade for Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer, who he joined from Wellington Phoenix in 2024. He has made 54 appearances for the team, including 46 in the league and is yet to score for them.
The Cardiff-born player has been capped 21 times by the All Whites since his debut in June 2023 and he has already scored three international goals. He was also part of the country’s squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics and won the 2023/24 OFC Nations Cup with the team.
