India’s latest Test debutant, left-arm slow bowler Manav Suthar, achieved these figures in the New Chandigarh Test against Afganistan on 8 June 2026. He now becomes the fifth Indian bowler to claim six or more wickets on Test debut, with leggie Narendra Hirwani having the distinction of doing it twice — eight wickets in each innings of his debut Test match. Along with Australian Bob Massie (at Lord’s in 1972) he is only one of two debutant bowlers with two eight-wicket hauls in the same Test match.

3 The number of Indian Test debutants who achieved the rare all-round feat of scoring at least 25 runs and also claiming four or more wickets in an innings. Manav Suthar has emulated the efforts of former India players Syed Abid Ali and Abhimanyu Mithun. Meanwhile, Suthar also joins a select group of Test cricketers with at least 25 runs, five or more wickets in an innings and three catches in their debut Test match. 104 The number of instances of batters being dismissed exactly on a score of 100 in Test cricket. K. L. Rahul, in the New Chandigarh Test, became the latest to be dismissed at this score, which incidentally, was the third such instance in his Test career. This makes him only the third batter in Test history to be dismissed thus on three or more occasions, as shown in the table below. He joins two other openers — England’s Len Hutton and Australia’s Graeme Wood.

11 The number of Indians to aggregate 1000 or more runs as a Test captain. Shubman Gill in the Chandigarh Test match on 6 June is the latest to do so during his knock of 126. In doing so, he became the second-quickest Indian captain to reach this milestone in fewest innings (15), after Sunil Gavaskar, who did it in 14 innings. However, Gill is the quickest to do it in fewest Test matches (9). Gill’s three-figure score in New Chandigarh was his sixth in 15 innings while leading the Test side. Only Don Bradman and Alastair Cook — both in 14 innings — have done it quicker as listed in the second table below.

57.89 Shubman Gill’s 100s to 50s ratio during his Test career is currently the third best among all batters with at least 10 centuries. His recent Test century in New Chandigarh was the 11th of his career out of his total 19 fifty-plus scores. Currently, only Australian Don Bradman and West Indian George Headley have a better conversion rate than Gill.

11 The number of Test nations with at least one batter to reach 1000 career Test runs. Afghanistan became the latest to join this list in the New Chandigarh Test match, with Rahmat Shah becoming the first Afghanistan batter to cross 1000 Test runs during his fighting knock of 60 against India on 7 June 2026. 15 The number of matches played by India against Afghanistan across all formats without facing a defeat. After India’s comprehensive Test victory in New Chandigarh, it has defeated Afghanistan on 13 occasions, including a win via a super over while the other matches ended in a tie and a no result. This means India has not yet lost an international against Afghanistan. As of now, no team has played this many matches against an opponent without tasting defeat in men’s internationals.
